12/18/2023 0 Comments Pittsburgh 3 ton jack stands![]() ![]() It is telling that HF pulled all of these types of steel jack stands from their online website leaving only one aluminum jack stand remaining. Because so many are being made and sold all over the world, it really doesn't surprise me that there is a bad batch of them where either the steel or the welding material was bad/poor quality or the welder (human or mechanical) was just not on their game that day. They are all pretty much the same design with the same weld points. In the end though who knows if any of these styles of Chinese made jack stands will ultimately fail. The welds (as best as the picture above shows) look smooth. The Torin Black Jack stands look and operate exactly as the HF one's. The Walmart jack stands were $24.98 so it was a wash. Which is why I haggled with the HF worker(s) to get the $24.99 cash rebate rather than the $19.99 price that I paid for them in 2015. However as this was the third recall on the HF jack stands (three different lot/model numbers), so I figured why not get new stands from a well known manufacturer just incase more HF jack stands are recalled. The HF jack stand worked fine since their purchase in 2015. Only on the little feet inserts did it appeared to be more of a tack weld than a solid bead. The weld bead did look a bit rough (not smooth) but acceptable to other welded seems I've seen over the years. The main seams wasn't tack welded by any means, one continuous weld bead where it was needed. Only two were left on the shelf in my local Walmart. One can use BrickSeek ( Walmart Inventory Checker - BrickSeek) to see if their local Walmart has them in stock. They got egg on their face with the replacement jacks splitting or having similar weld problems.Īnyway to the Walmart Black Jack 3 Ton Jack Stands that they sell in Walmart stores. HF was at least fairly proactive about the initial recalls. Likewise that could mean that the HF recall could potentially end up expanding to other sellers. Which means the chances are good that they may come from the same limited number of Chinese manufacturers. They almost all use the same identical design. While we've dramatically grown our team of engineers and inspectors, and intensified our tests and inspections, I assure you that the lessons learned from this will drive further improvement.Īs the owner and founder of Harbor Freight, I want you to know that we stand behind every product we sell and that safety will always be our top priority.Ĭlick to expand. The problem with almost all jack stands that run under $100 is they are almost all made in China.
